Year after year, the Goodwood Festival of Speed (FOS) manages to keep us on our toes, but the British velocity celebration isn't without its drawbacks. For one thing, go-fast machines sometimes get an urge to go on a hay diet when sprinting on the infamous Hillclimb.
Case in point with the McLaren 675LT Spider that crashed at Goodwood earlier today. So far, we only have the pair of images below (hat tip to Autogespot), but these are enough to tell the damage is just as light as the supercar itself.
Heck, even if the open-top 675 Longtail had sustained more serious damage, its one-of-five-hundred status would've meant that Woking would've done what needed to be done to bring the car back to mint condition - after all, Rowan Atkison's ruined McLaren F1 didn't fix itself.
This is a McLaren-owned car and we'll cut the British automaker all the slack in the world, as there are tons of reasons for that. Aside from the "It's only those who do nothing that make no mistakes, I suppose" lesson coming from novelist Joseph Conrad, we'll also treat this matter lightly thanks to all the awesome go-fast adventures McLaren is responsible for at this year's FOS.
The automaker is an official sponsor of the 2016 Festival of Speed, which means we'll get to see plenty of carbon fiber action over the weekend. For one thing, a P1 GTR, one that's been brought back to the road-legal status by British specialist Lanzante Motorsport, will attempt to set a new street car record for the Hillclimb.
From the tarmac debut of the 570S Sprint racecar to the introduction of a P1 GTR that pays a nod to James Hunt, we have plenty of twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 goodies to enjoy this weekend. Oh, and let's not forget that McLaren is also brining its F1 cars to the British event.
