Even though the Macca boys entered the supercar game a long time after Ferrari set up shop, the Woking-based outfit has a few things going on for it. One of those things comes in the form of the McLaren 675LT, the slightly more brutal and faster sibling of the Ferrari 488 GTB-rivaling McLaren 650S.
Keep in mind that production of the McLaren 675LT just started at the McLaren Production Centre near Woking, Great Britain, yet all examples are already spoken for. All 500 of them. Paying homage to the iconic McLaren F1 GTR Longtail, the performance, and extremely limited availability are to thank for that.
Then again, as McLaren is marketing this car, power is a beautiful thing, and the 675LT has plenty of that. With a dry weight of just 1,230 kg (2,712 lbs) and a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 that pushes 675 PS (666 HP) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) through a fast dual-clutch automatic, have a guess what the 549 PS per tonne power-to-weight ratio means in terms of performance.
0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.9 seconds, a top sped of 330 km/h (205 mph) and mechanical goodies that aid the car’s dynamic capabilities. Speaking of which, the carbon fiber-finished aerodynamic bits and bobs are complemented by a large Longtail Airbrake system. A true driver’s car indeed, the 675LT’s capabilities are also mirrored by its mind-boggling starting price: £259,500 or $405,570 at current exchange rates.
"The McLaren F1 GTR ‘Longtail’ was the final highly successful iteration of the F1, and it is an appropriate name for the most exhilarating and driver-focused version of the Super Series. The 675LT is the purest distillation of what McLaren stands for – pure driving pleasure,” explains Mike Flewitt, the CEO of McLaren Automotive.
