While McLaren may have added quite a few things to the 12C in order to turn it into the 650S, it looks like the Brits are not done with the thing, at least not when it comes to removing stuff. McLaren is currently weighing the possibility of building a track spec version of their 650S.
McLaren Chief Development Driver, Chris Gordon, recently told AutoExpress that there’s quite some room for improvement. ““This is not as far as we’re going to go – there’s plenty more we can do,” the driver said, talking about the performance.
Apparently, we has pointing the finger at the 650S rather than at the upcoming P13 entry-level model.
Diving deeper into the matter, Gordon mentioned a pretty interesting figure. 12 percent. This refers to how many Mclaren owners actually track their cars. Keep in mind that McLaren is much less of a poser’s brand than Ferrari or Lamborghini. Given the costs of hooning a supercar, as well as the planning needed in order to reach a circuit, this shouldn’t come as a shockingly small percentage. Still, it is pretty painful.
And this is just half of the track day story, as McLaren is also reportedly planning such a version for the yet unrevealed P13.
