The Woking-based Formula 1 outfit and automobile manufacturer may be hard at work implementing the new Honda power unit on its 2015 racecar, as well as developing its upcoming Sports Series supercar, but the McLaren boys are also trying new things. Specifically, the British marque ventured into the rarefied world of vehicle personalization programmes.
Officially dubbed MSO, we've previously covered what the new McLaren Special Operations division does, along with the extremely enticing 650S Limited Edition model. The 650S Coupe we'll talk about today is the exact opposite of the stealthy Limited Edition.Boasting with a pearl white exterior paint job, black alloy wheels and bright yellow brake calipers squeezing carbon ceramic discs, this is that kind of supercar which grabs everyone's attention. Advertised for €317,417 ($385,725 or £248,456) and first registered in France in September, this Mac only shows 50 km (31 miles).
You could say it's a virtually new motor, especially after you find out the McLaren factory warranty is still in effect. Like any other 650S, the MSO-grade Macca boasts with a twin-turbocharged V8 powerhouse that develops 650 horsepower and 500 lb-ft (678 Nm) of torque. Coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch auto box, the 3-second stint to 62 mph (100 km/h) and 207 mph (333 km/h) top speed come as a result of that.
As for the McLaren Special Operations treatment, that comprises of a carbon fiber & Alcantara cabin, a redesigned diffuser at the rear made from carbon fiber, as well as a black-painted roof. We know, we're also wondering if the MSO division only does carbon fiber and special exterior finishes, but nevertheless, it's necessary to highlight this is just the entry-level Defined tier, the least pretentious tier of the MSO division.
