McLaren 650S Le Mans Priced at £244,500

As McLaren’s Formula 1 division prepares to reveal the world with its 2015 racecar, the carmaker’s so-called Special Operations skunkworks detail a 650S that pays tribute to the legendary F1 GTR. Dubbed the McLaren 650S Le Mans, the limited-run special edition model costs a whopping 244,500 pounds.

In US dollars that’s 371,460, while current rates tell that the previously mentioned sticker price equals to 320,000 euros. It’s a lot of dough for an entry-level supercar from a company with not as much pedigree as the Prancing Horse from Maranello, but the devil is in the details on this particular occasion.

Each and every one of the 50 examples slated to be built were co-developed by both the Macca Special Divison and Peter Stevens, the gentleman that gave us the iconic McLaren F1 hypercar from the 1990s. That Le Mans in its name, as well as the styling are all inspired by the Le Mans-winning 01R McLaren F1 GTR. You even get a roof-mounted air intake!

Peel away the MSO treatment (carbon fiber, orange brake calipers, unique interior makeover and such) and you’re left with power and torque figures that’re unchanged from the standard McLaren 6502: 650 PS and 678 Nm (500 lb-ft) of torque, generated by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 motor. Alas, 0 to 62 mph (100 km) is achieved in mind-boggling quick 3 seconds.

“It is a fantastic homage to that original design,” F1 designer Peter Stevens commented on the 650S Le Mans. With deliveries slated to commence midyear, the Woking-based outfit also informs that £244,500 is enough for the vehicle and an exclusive invitation for the owner plus a guest to join McLaren at a 20th anniversary celebration of the famous victory at the historic Le Mans circuit courtesy of the Macca boys.
