Now that the McLaren 570S has landed in New York, the 570S Spider is waiting to make summer cruel for Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet drivers, right? Err... no. As it turns out, Surrey isn’t rushing to throw the open-top on the market and will make us wait until 2017 to receive it.
McLaren execs told Car and Driver they have different plans for the Sports Series. The model that’s set to follow the 570S will be even faster, with a Longtail-styled incarnation expected to land in 2016.
As expect, McLaren didn’t exactly refrain themselves from packing the usual stellar performance into the Sports Series, which means that the open-top 570S might dig into 650S Spider territory. Nevertheless, when the 570S Spider arrives in 2017, the wind-in-your-hair 650S will be on its way out, set to be replaced by the P14 project.
If we had to choose a season, we’d say McLaren is currently in its spring. The British automaker has moved on from its infancy stage, starting to diversify its offer. Aside from the wider lineup, McLaren also offers winter driving courses now.
Returning to the 570S Spider, we can assure this will be worth the wait. Ever since it has built its first open-top model, the MP4-12C Spider, McLaren has demonstrated their arachnids are just as fast as their fixed-roof models.
