McLaren 570S GT4 Hits the Track, Looks Crazy Fast, but Sounds Disappointing

Yes, this is McLaren doing the final testing, not a customer enjoying the charms of the track-only Woking machine. And this is a key aspect, since it allows us to hope for a meaner soundtrack for the final car.

As you'll be able to notice in the pieces of footage below, the manic pace of the 570S GT4 isn't, by any means, matched by its voice. And since all McLaren models share the same twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8, we know for a fact that even the British automaker's road cars can sound more aggressive than that.

Nevertheless, with the GT4 regulation seeing the 570S borrowing the powertrain from the street vehicle, we could expect a meatier exhaust note for the vehicle that will be delivered to the customers.

Fortunately, we don't have too much waiting to do in order to find out, since the 570S GT4 is scheduled to make its debut at the British GT championship's Brands Hatch race next month - note that what you see here is a private day on the Monza track in Italy.

Aside from the obvious aero changes, the circuit-confined 570S also comes with a wider track, while the suspension now includes adjustable dampers, as well as an integrated air jack. The cooling has also been upgraded.

Those who feel the limitations brought by the GT4 class mean this isn't the 570S racecar for them shouldn't fret. McLaren is also working on a 570S Sprint, as part of a greater racing plan.
