Save for its range of hypercars and the LT series of models, road-going McLarens don’t sound as exhilarating as a Ferrari or Lamborghini does. Not even the aftermarket scene helps, especially because it’s a pain to find the ideal exhaust system, a unit both loud and free of drone. Happily, however, Larini Systems knows better.
The UK-based company offers a wide selection of exhaust systems for McLaren models, from the MP4-12C to the 540C and even the 675LT. On this occasion, however, a 570S is the focus of the story. Specifically, the sound it produces with Larini-developed sports catalytic converters.
Dubbed by Larini “maybe the greatest exhaust video of all time,” the 6-minute clip at the end of this story is a testament to how a tuning outfit can change the aural identity of a car to a great extent. For reference, the second clip at the end of this story features a stock McLaren 570S.

From an enjoyable yet sedated hubbub in stock form, this Macca morphs into an intoxicating white knuckle ride thanks to Larini’s know-how.
As per the manufacturer, the 300-cell sports catalytic converters offer “near unopposed gas flow. The resulting increase in flow rates - with a modulation of backpressure, allowing the engine to breathe and perform better.” Other than a slight power increase without any emissions-related drawback, the cats retain McLaren’s OEM connections for the lambda/heat probes.
