Remember the days when tuning your car's ECU was a big deal? Nowadays, engine management software play is treated like an easy task and we're here to see how much of a difference an ECU remap does, one that involves working on a McLaren 570S.
Most challenges of this kind involve drag racing, but not the one we have here. Instead, we're dealing with a circuit adventure that sees the Sports Series McLaren lapping the track in factory stock and remapped condition.

The Woking machine was taken to The Thermal Club, a track that sits about 150 miles away from Los Angeles and one you might've seen in other YouTube videos delivered by vloggers who live in LA.

The twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 in the middle of the 570S was given a Fabspeed Motorsport tune, with the output of the mill being measured before and after the remap.

Once the 1s and 0s did their thing, the McLaren went from 532 hp and 432 lb-ft of twist to 583 hp and 518 lb-ft of twist - having been measured on a Dynojet dyno, these wheel output figures mean that the 570S ended up delivering past 650 ponies at the crank. So yes, we're dealing with an upgrade that brought the machine past the stock output of its 650S big brother.

Improving the already-impressive performance of the 570S seems to be the trend of the season. Even the British automaker pulled such a stunt late last month, when the company introduced the 570S Track Package.

Another example involves Italian aftermarket developer Novitec's 570S package, which offers a more complex approach, albeit without touching the cabin of the supercar.

Oh, and by the way, the best bit about this story is that the McLaren 570S can already challenge supercars such as the Lamborghini Huracan without requiring any tuning assistance.
