The thirteenth-generation Ford F-150 is a pickup truck of many firsts for the Blue Oval and its segment. But the most often heard argument regarding the F-150 is that the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine sucks for the most obvious of reasons: it sounds bland.
Thanks to the peeps over at MBRP Performance Exhausts, that can be changed for just $375. Now available for sale on AmericanMuscle.com, the MBRP Installer Series 4-inch cat-back exhaust system for the 2015 to 2017 Ford F-150 2.7 EcoBoost is just what the doctor ordered. Truth be told, even with this system, the 2.7 turbocharged V6 doesn’t sound as good as a V8. But then again, it does sound much better than standard. Much, much better.

Justin Dugan of American Muscle puts it best why some F-150 owners choose the 2.7 over the Five-Oh: “We have a shop 5.0 that is lifted along with my personal truck which is the lifted 2.7 in the video, both with 35"s. I'm averaging roughly 2 – 3 mpg better in my Ecoboost given the same drive. While not crazy, that will add up over time.” He’s right, you know. And with the MBRP 4-inch exhaust system, the exhaust tone of the 2.7 EcoBoost is that much better and sportier. Also, the exhaust flow is marginally improved.

Made from 4-inch mandrel-bent aluminized steel tubing and finished with a 5-inch polished stainless steel tip, the MBRP exhaust system exists right behind the right rear tire, and it’s 100 percent bolt-on. Hence, installation is as easy as it gets and, with simple tools, it shouldn’t take owners more than 2 hours to give a more gutural aural identity to their Ford F-150 2.7 EcoBoost trucks.

While Ford has convinced pickup truck customers they don’t need a thumping great and thirsty V8, aftermarket companies such as MBRP Performance Exhaust can convince them that the EcoBoost powertrain can sound as interesting as they come, turbo whoosh included. Similarly, the Ford Mustang 2.3 EcoBoost can be made to sound nice with a Roush axle-back system.
