Mazi’s Magnus 3000 Shows Why Electric Motorcycles Are Taking Over the World

One of the greatest things about the expansion of electric mobility is that more and more startups from all over the world are helping people in their communities experience the many benefits of switching to electric vehicles.

One of these is Kenyan-based Mazi, a Mobility as a Service (MaaS) company that is determined to have a positive impact on the local transport in Nairobi. Founded in 2019, Mazi Mobility has recently announced the launch of its first electric motorcycle, a result of the collaboration between the Kenyan startup and Satgana, a global venture builder.

One of Africa’s particularities, when it comes to transportation, is that “bodas,” or motorcycles, are also widely used as taxis, which contributes to the increase of CO2 emissions. This is one of the reasons why the young entrepreneurs at Mazi Mobility wanted to focus on an environmentally-friendly alternative to the omnipresent boda.

The Magnus 3000 or M3K looks ready to compete with standard bodas and prove that it’s better. It’s fast enough for daily commutes, with a top speed of almost 50 mph (80 kph), and it promises a maximum range of 86 miles (140 km), on a single charge, for the dual battery option. The single battery version of the M3K reduces the range to 43 miles (70 km). Mazi also wanted this bike to be hassle-free, so the press of a button is all it takes to start the M3K or to shift gears.

With the launch of a new electric motorcycle, the Kenyan startup wanted to focus on affordability and reduced charging time. According to it, this green alternative’s cost per mile is half of that of a standard motorcycle and the maintenance is also a lot cheaper.

Plus, one of Mazi’s innovations is to provide battery swap stations all over Nairobi. This way, customers can forget about the inconvenience of having to wait for batteries to charge. All they have to do is use the company’s app to find the nearest swap station and have their battery replaced in record time.

The Nairobi-based company offers demo rides for the Magnus 3000, as well as an affordable payment plan, with monthly installments.
