Last week, we learned that Toyota will be selling a rebadged Mazda2 to US consumers in the next few years. Mazda plans to assemble the all-new 2 subcompact in a Mexican factory located in Guanajuato starting in 2014, and there will also be a Toyota-badged version.
We have no idea why this is, since Toyota already has the Yaris, but we’re not going to challenge the biggest automaker in the world.
The new Mazda factory will have a production capacity to about 140,000 cars a year, so presumably there will be a lot of these rebadged cars around.
We thought it’d be interesting to show you what the current Mazda2 would look like with the front end off a Toyota. It’s not a bad looking exercise, though the next-generation car will be much different.
