Mazda Turkey Makes Odd Modification in Management Board

In the past period of time, Mazda Motor Europe has used us with many modifications in the management board. We can't tell whether these changes are made because the Japanese automaker is struggling to find appropriate persons to help it cope with the financial crisis or because Mazda just has a very-well implemented promotions system based on competences.

This time, we're speaking about a modification in the management board of Mazda Turkey. Thus, Bora Koçak who was General Manager responsible for Sales, Marketing and After Sales Operations has just been promoted to the position of Managing Director of its new national sales company in Turkey. As a matter of fact, he already started his new assignment on February 1, 2009.

Bora Koçak is going to replace the current Managing Director, Steve Newton. And since the last one has had a very important contribution to the implementation of Mazda’s business plan for its new national sales company in Turkey, he isn't given the sack. On the contrary, he will return to  Mazda Motor Europe in Leverkusen, where he will assume a new role within the region. However, we are not exactly told how his new role will be like or whether he will still occupy a managing position or not.

“I am particularly pleased to be able to hand over to Bora,” said Mr. Newton. “His experience in the market, and contribution since joining the new company, indicate that he is the right choice to lead the continued growth of Mazda in the Turkish market.”

Well, we don't know how “pleased” can be a person whose managing position is given to another employee but at least he's showing some courtesy.

However, we can not refrain from saying that the promotion is a little bit surprising. It seemsthat Mr. Koçak  who has graduated from the Turkish Naval Academy, Istanbul joined Mazda in August last year. Before coming to Mazda Turkey, he held several executive positions at Citroen, Kia, Lada for more than 12 years. But still, the man doesn't even have one year within Mazda Turkey. Isn't it way too soon for a promotion of this kind?!
