Mazda today announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Russia’s OJSC Sollers, aiming to establish a joint-venture production facility in the country.
Together with Sollers, one of Russia’s top automotive companies, the Japanese carmaker wants to build a production site in Vladivostok, in Russia’s Far Eastern Federal District. This will allow Mazda to offer multiple models directly on the Russian market.
Russia is Mazda’s second largest European marker and has the potential to develop even further. In the January - September 2011 period, Mazda sold around 28,000 vehicles in the country, a figure that can be translated into a 77 percent increase compared to the one posted last year.
The move is part of a bigger plan, which will see Mazda make efforts to boost its sales on emerging markets worldwide.
