Mazda has commenced vehicle poduction at its brand new plant in Salamanca, Mexico, the automaker announced today, adding that the first model to come off the assembly line is a 2014 Mazda3 sedan for the US market.
Besides assembling the all-new Mazda3, which will be produced for the United States, other countries in the Americas and the Europe market as well, the Mexican plant will also roll out the smaller Mazda2. The Japanese automaker has yet to announce a timetable for that model, but we do know that the new Mazda2 will arrive in the fourth quarter of the year.
“With the start of mass production, we now have a system capable of offering vehicles of the same high quality as those made in Japan, on a global scale, and that is extremely gratifying. We are committed to continue our efforts to contribute to the growth of Mexico’s economy through the production of vehicles and the development of personnel who support and lead the automobile industry here,” said Keishi Egawa, the company’s managing executive officer.
