After Mazda introduced the RX-Vision yesterday, the world wide web went crazy with the renderings based on the concept. Now that we’ve waited long enough for the pixel dust to settle down a bit, we’re bringing you what has to be the wildest digital manipulation of the RX-Vision to date.
The RX-7 reincarnation was imagined as a drift car, wearing the colors of pro drifter Mad Mike Whiddett. For those of you who are not following the drift scene, we’ll mention the New Zealander is nothing short of a rotary power ambassador, having torn up plenty of tracks across the world in his Madbull RX-7, his Badbull RX-8, and his Radbull Miata, all with extreme Wankel setups - for instance, the Miata packs as much as 1,200 hp.

So yes, if Mazda ever turns the RX-Vision into reality, as the Japanese carmaker is expected to, we’ll bet on Mad Mike for converting one into an out-of-this-world machine and, for instance, smoke Goodwood once the build is ready.

Until then, the man’s team has come up with the rendering above, which sees the Mazda wearing the drifter’s usual Red Bull livery.

The RX-Vision also sports a wide body kit, one that could easily be delivered by eccentric Japanese tuner Liberty Walk.

More importantly, the RX-Vision’s long engine compartment would allow Mad Mike to fit a six-rotor setup in there. Don’t expect to see something like this on the production version, though.

Since we’re talking about the wildest RX-Vision-related news, we’ll remind you the boldest rumors around point to the Skyactiv-R engine being part of a hybrid powertrain.

An electric motor would make up for the rotary engine’s lacking low-end grunt, while the match between the two could also help Mazda deal with strict emission targets. Nevertheless, the Japanese carmaker hasn’t disclosed the slightest of details about the Skyactiv-R, so all we can do for now is check out this rendering and dream about it.
