Mazda MX-5 Yusho Concept Driven Hard Around Hockenheim

As we have previously said, we really like the Mazda MX-5 Yusho and we say the Japanese manufacturer should positively and unequivocally put it into production.
While the standard MX-5 has its appeal, some more hardcore drivers will not buy it, as it lacks the necessary power to really impress - despite having an excellent chassis, like all recent Mazdas for that matter.

The ‘Yusho’ (‘Victory’ in Japanese) features the same 2-liter engine as the regular car, but it is supercharged and power goes up from the rather-weedy 160 hp, to a more respectable 237 hp, while torque rises from 188 Nm to an equally-respectable 274 Nm. You can sort-of hear the supercharger whine in this German video of it being hooned around the Hockenheim-Ring.

In order to make it even better, engineers have fettled with its suspension and have given it special semi-slick tires, as well as some light aero tuning. Yet again, we insist, this car must be put into production, possibly with a hardtop, and it would be the Exige to Mazda’s equivalent to the Elise.
