Mazda has just announced that a new flavor the MX-5, codenamed Superlight version, will be on display at the 2009 Frnakfurt Auto Show to be held in September. Only little is known at this point but, as you can see for yourselves, the new MX-5 comes with no windscreen. Under the bonnet, it incorporates several weight-reduction technologies, each of them aimed at improving performance and fuel efficiency.
The prototype was designed at Mazda's studio in Frankfurt, Germany, Mazda said in a release. It will be unveiled at Mazda’s press conference in Hall 3.1, Stand A7, on September15 at 12:45 local time.
Unfortunately, there's no word on the engine to power the concept. It will most likely feature a 2.0-liter powerplant that would contribute to the low fuel consumption figures targeted by the Japanese carmaker.
Just a few days ago, Mazda rolled out another M5-X, the Roadster 20th Anniversary Special Edition. It was especially designed to commemorate 20 years since the small roadster was released for the first time. The Anniversary edition is based on the Roadster RS soft-top and comes equipped with a six-speed transmission.
The whole special edition range is painted in Crystal White Pearl Mica, used for the first time on the Mazda Roadster. The starting price has been set to 2,860,000 yen ($29,900) for the soft-top version and 3,110,000 yen ($32,500) for the RHT model . Other highlights include unique red and black RECARO bucket sport seats, exclusive 20th Anniversary badges, and clear front fog lights.
