Mazda MX-5 R-Sport Special Edition Is How You Make a Cool Car Cooler

For the past three decades or so, the two-seater roadster segment has been dominated by a small Japanese build that goes by the name of Mazda MX-5. Known here and there as the Miata as well, the car is without a doubt the best selling model in its world.

In a segment that can be considered niche at most, Mazda is soldiering on with the MX-5 like there is no tomorrow. The usual lineup includes no less than 10 other models, four convertibles and six RFs.

As Japanese engineers are hard at work designing the next generation of the model, Mazda keeps upping the ante for the existing niche MX-5 by making it even more desirable. Several special versions were released in recent years for the car, and now comes the freshest of them.

Called R-Sport, the special edition is based on the existing 2020 Mazda MX-5 Sport equipped with the 1.5-liter engine that develops 132 ps. Only 150 units of it will be made, with orders already being taken online and deliveries expected to commence as soon as current retail restrictions end.

The R-Sport is priced in the UK from £27,700 and brings several unique features, including Polymetal Grey paint, Nappa leather seats, 16-inch RAYS wheels, piano black mirrors and a grey fabric hood. These features complement the already long list of available systems: navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, heated seats and climate control.

“I’m delighted that we can offer an exclusive MX-5 Convertible model to our customers,” said in a statement Mazda Motors UK Managing Director Jeremy Thomson.

“With it joining the rest of the Convertible and RF models in the line-up, we now have a great choice of MX-5s in our updated 2020 Mazda MX-5 range, which means that anyone wanting to drive a distinctive and stylish roadster can find what they need.”
