Mazda Focuses on Vehicle Residual Values

Fleet owners are mostly concerned about vehicle acquisition and depreciation, so Japanese automaker Mazda focuses strong on ensuring its residual values are among the best in class. Depreciation accounts for around 45% of a vehicle’s whole life cost followed by fuel (28%), service maintenance and repair (13%), insurance premiums (8%) and tires (6%).

Mazda’s core markets for this segment are Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK, while the models that are mostly chosen by fleet decision makers are the Mazda2, Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-7.

According to the automaker, here are the latest residual trade-value forecast data at three years/90,000 km from EurotaxGlass for the aforementioned models:

Mazda2 will have a retained residual value of 37.2% in France putting it second in the segment and ahead of the likes of the Honda Jazz, Nissan Micra, Opel Corsa, Peugeot 207, Renault Clio and Toyota Yaris.

Mazda3 diesel will have a retained residual value of 42.9% in France, 45.3% in the Netherlands and 46.3% in Spain putting it in second place in the segment behind the Volkswagen Golf, but ahead of the likes of the Honda Civic, Opel Astra, Peugeot 308, and Toyota Auris.

Mazda6 diesel variants have amongst the highest residual values in Spain (46.3%), Germany (41.5%) and the UK (38.1%) ahead of rivals including the Honda Accord, Opel Insignia, Renault Laguna, and Volkswagen Passat. Petrol variants are in second place in Spain (39.7%) and the UK (38.5%).

Finally, Mazda CX-7 diesel leads the residual value way in Italy with a retained value of 49.8% putting the model ahead of the Honda CR-V, Renault Koleos, Toyota RAV-4 and Volkswagen Tiguan and in second spot in the UK (43.6%).

“In the short term, our aim is to have Mazda models ranked in the top half of our competitor set. In the mid-term, Mazda models should always be in the top three,”
said Nicola Murphy, Manager Total Cost of Ownership and Fleet Operations at Mazda Motor Europe.
