The Clemson University has released a video in which the birth of the Mazda Deep Orange 3 concept is explained. The vehicle was revealed last week as “a next-generation Mazda concept vehicle” that was developed and engineered by the students from the Clemson University and the Art Center College of Design.
Conceived with a stylish hatchback design, the Deep Orange 3 is powered by a unique hybrid powertrain that automatically chooses front, rear or all-wheel drive. It also sports a load-bearing structure based on innovative sheet-folding technology patented by Industrial Origami and a 3+3 seating configuration in “sports car architecture”.

“It’s been really done the Mazda way, it’s been done by using new approaches to lightweight materials and powertrain technology,. The students have done a great job in establishing what they wanted to build, developing the marketing research around it and then developing and implementing new technics of manufacture and design in the car that they’ve built. It’s a home run,” said Robert Davis, senior vice president of Mazda North American Operations.
