With the 2015 Mazda CX-5 facelift slated to debut on November 21st next to the mid-cycle refresh of the 6 and the new CX-3, it is sort of redundant to talk about a tuning program made to the measure of the CX-5. But the combined tuning effort of Mazda Hungary and Totalcar is not bad at all, not by a long shot.
Not bad at all if we’re to be completely frank. On any other day, the CX-5 is Mazda’s main weapon in the compact crossover segment. The sport utility vehicle can be had in a very limited number of exterior finishes, with the coolest coming in the form of Zeal Red Mica and that super popular electric blue finish.

As for exterior aesthetics, the only drawback with the CX-5 is that there’s nothing else available to spruce up its looks. Think of the Opel Corsa’s OPC Line visual treatment and Nissan’s NISMO models. That sort of visual enticement is what the CX-5 lacks.

With the Mazda Hungary x Totalcar tune job, the Japanese manufacturer should get a hint and start thinking about offering such a pack because just look at how neat and sporty it looks. The matte black hood and upper body is contrasting beautifully with the factory-spec silver and the candy apple red detailing that adorns the mirror caps, front grille surround and the gunmetal 19-inch Design 147 alloys.

Imagine how great it would be if Mazda made this an optional appearance package priced competitively. Unfortunately for those that expected more, this CX-5 is box standard both inside and in terms of mechanicals. Specifically, this tricked-out Mazda CX-5 has a 2-liter SkyActiv-G four-cylinder petrol mill that sends a modest 165 HP and 210 Nm (155 lb-ft) only to the front axle via a six-speed stick shift.
