Mazda CX-5 SUV Gets a Silver Chin from Japanese Tuner DAMD

Do you guys remember the Japanese tuner DAMD? At the beginning of this month, we discovered they made a kit for the Toyota GT 86 that turned it into an Aston Martin Vantage of sorts. It went viral all over the internet and today we're back with something a little more mainstream, but just as crazy.

We always get excited when we discover a new tuning kit for the Mazda CX-5, but also a little sad. You see, the Japanese SUV doesn't have a turbocharged petrol engine, so you can't extract 300 hp like you can with the VW Touareg. But that doesn't mean this project isn't awesome in every other way.

Let's start at the front, where a "protector" has been installed. That's just a fancy Japanese word for what we call a chin spoiler. Strictly functionally speaking, it's a really bad idea to have one of these because it gets damaged while parking and is too high off the ground to add downforce. At speed, the CX-5 probably has lift, not downforce because it's a Mazda and not a Ferrari.

Still, at least you can say that your family SUV has a silver chin. It also comes with side skirts and a rear diffuser. Plenty of chrome garnish has also been added, from the front grille to the door handles and rear bumper.

If you're currently unsatisfied with the exhaust sound of your 2.5-liter Skyactiv engine, then consider calling DAMD. They have a nice set of stainless breathers for those four cylinders to enjoy.

On the interior front, we can see that new black leather covers with red stitching join an upgraded armrest.

The finishing touch is a set of massive 21-inch alloy wheels that have a split spoke design. We'd avoid those since we discovered the CX-5 already rides a bit like a sportscar when we tested it.
