Mazda CX-5 2.2 Diesel Gets Top Speed Run on Autobahn

The Mazda CX-5 is currently one of the most efficient and advanced SUV/crossovers on the market, and the SKYACTIV philosophy adopted by the Japanese automaker is clearly evident in the vehicle’s handling, but most importantly in its performance.
We found an acceleration run for the 2.2-liter 175 hp diesel model, courtesy of caracceleration, which surprised us by being extremely spritely, especially through the first three gears. The twin-turbocharged unit, displacing exactly 2,184cc is unique in the sector, as it can be revved all the way to 5,500 rpm, where it surprisingly does not sound gruff or strained - in fact, it sounds rather sporty, which is odd for a four-pot diesel of any kind.

The the car hits 210 km/h (on the dial) and finally stops its acceleration there, but given the type of vehicle it is, the rather small displacement engine it has and the fact that it is rather tall and not particularly aerodynamic (still good for an SUV, though), the 8.8 seconds it takes to reach 100 km/h seem excellent.

We hope to get our hands on one of these soon, so that we can bring you a full in-dept test drive, and try the car out for ourselves, as it is one of the models we are really looking forward to testing.
