Mazda’s CX-5 crossover has been praised by all the automotive journalists who have had a chance to have a go in it. With great handling, efficient engines and good performance, all courtesy of Mazda’s SKYACTIV philosophy, it has gained quite a few ‘fans’.
Seeing that the CX-5 is receiving praise, Mazda will apparently be launching a smaller crossover offering, which will most likely be called the CX-3. It will share its chassis with the next Mazda2, and it is set to make its market debut some time in 2014. Design-wise, it will be most likely an evolution of what they are currently doing, so it will borrow styling cues from the CX-5 and the all-new 6, which is not a bad thing at all, given that both those cars are quite handsome.

Aside from the good traits we have gotten used to when it comes to new Mazdas, the CX-3 will also feature a smaller displacement diesel engine (probably a 1.6-liter), as well as a turbocharged 1.3-liter petrol unit. Furthermore, since the highest-selling crossovers in the class do not have four-wheel drive, the Japanese automaker will offer the CX-5 in front-wheel drive guise only.
