Mazda’s new 6 is a real stunner, and it will apparently spawn a few more cars, based on the same architecture. The plan is to make a unique and sporty SUV, vaguely along the lines of the BMW X6, but different. It will be a driver-focused car (probably) with very aggressive styling, and keen engines.
Hiroshi Kajiyama, the program manager for the new 6, said: “I want to create a crossover model … I can do it quite easily [. . .] It is one of the things I am looking at,” he added. “If you try to fill the empty space in the portfolio then you will be followed by other manufacturers immediately.”

Currently, the Mazda6 only comes in sedan and estate flavors, yet a unique crossover would definitely be a great addition to the range. Also, considering just how good the new CX-5 is, we have no doubts in Mazda’s ability to deliver a class leading vehicle in this market niche.

Kajiyama went on to say that: “I don’t think an SUV is going to offer a ton of driving pleasure [. . .] The good thing about [a mid-sized] car is the low centre of gravity allows you to make you really feel the driving pleasure.” We will provide you with more information on this very interesting topic, as soon as we find out.
