Mazda Carol Upgraded for Japan

Japanese manufacturer Mazda today announced an upgrade for the Carol mico-mini for the Japanese market. Particularly popular among women, the Carol now comes with a number of improvements at both the exterior and the interior plus equipment enhancements across the entire range.

First of all, the Carol is now bringing a new front face with a five-point lower grille and six colors available, including Shiny Green Metallic (new), Air Blue Metallic, Milk Tea Beige Metallic and Maroon Brown Pearl. Inside, Mazda implemented a rounded design theme with bright colors and upgraded instrument panel. The seat design now comprises a combination of beige and bright tea-colored material.

The engine lineup has been specifically tweaked to return lower emission figures and improved fuel economy with the help of reduced bodyweight, a variable valve timing (VVT) system and an optional CVT. Furthermore, a new information display now shows details such as fuel economy, average fuel consumption and remaining driving coverage.

The car is fitted with a wide array of safety features, including driver and passenger side SRS airbag systems, a lightweight shock-absorbing body, and an interior structure designed to minimize head injuries.

The upgraded range will be offered in two grades, GS and XS, with either FWD or AWD and 5-speed manual, 4-speed automatic or a CVT. Pricing for the GS version starts at 899,850 yen ($10,000) - taxes included - while the XS comes with a price tag of 1,057,350 yen ($11,795).

In terms of equipment upgrades, the XS model features a vanity mirror with an attached light, door mirrors with embedded LED turning signals. All 4WD models come with a driver's side heated seat.
