Mazda Brings Custom Style Models to Tokyo Auto Salon, Debuts MX-5 Classic Red

Slated to open its doors in January 2017, the Tokyo Auto Salon is the perfect venue for Japanese automakers to showcase their latest creations. Mazda, for example, decided to exhibit a flurry of models, plus an MX-5 roadster inspired by the first-gen MX-5.

The first exhibit is the pictured MX-5 Miata, which wears Classic Red paint. It’s a nod to one of the most popular finishes introduced by the MX-5 NA, introduced to the world in 1989 at the Chicago Auto Show. To set it apart from Soul Red Metallic and Soul Red Crystal, Mazda went for a glossy paint finish that fits the lovely MX-5 Miata like a hand in glove.

In Tokyo, Mazda will also bring the MX-5 RF Custom Style. Finished in Soul Red Metallic, the Custom Style ups the ante with a body kit that includes a front lip spoiler finished in glossy black, bigger side skirts, a more generous rear spoiler, and chromed double exhaust tips. Inside, the Custom Style treatment adds Alcantara on the door cards, center console, gear lever, parking brake, as well as aluminum pedals. Stance is also enhanced thanks to an adjustable coilover suspension system.

Next up, we have the 2017 Mazda CX-5 Custom Style. As you might have guessed by now, the exterior design mirrors that of the MX-5 RF Custom Style, excluding the paint finish (Machine Gray Metallic), 20-inch wheels, and the matte black brake calipers. Inside, the CX-5 in Custom Style attire gets illuminated scuff plates and luxury floor mats.

Then there’s the 2017 Mazda CX-3 Custom Style, which is the mirror image of its bigger brother. The only notable difference between the two crossovers is the size of the wheels. Last, but certainly not least, the 2017 Mazda2 Custom Style looks as if the subcompact hatchback went to the gym, working its tiny little heart out to put some brawn on.

Mazda has yet to say if the Custom Style body kit will be available as a dealer upgrade in Japan, but this prospect seems likely. The MX-5 Classic Red, meanwhile, could make it into production as a special edition model.
