Mazda Axela Sport 90th Anniversary Special Edition Revealed

Japanese carmaker Mazda announced today it has released a special edition Mazda Axela Sport (also known as Mazda3 hatchback in overseas markets) to mark its 90th anniversary. Outfitted with performance accessories, the Mazda Axela Sport 1.5 S Style went on sale today at all Mazda, Mazda Anfini and Mazda Autozam dealerships throughout Japan.

The new special edition anniversary model, which reportedly offers attractive eco-friendly and safety features, is priced between 1,760,000 - 1,850,000 yen - all taxes included - ($19,500 - $20,500).

The 1.5 S Style is based on the 1.5-liter Axela Sport and qualifies for Japan’s eco-car incentive program and 50 percent tax reductions under the government’s tax reduction program. New features include 15- or 16-inch alloy wheels, side spoilers, LED rear combination lights and dark tinted glass (rear door and rear quarter panel windows, rear liftgate glass).

The version with 16-inch wheels also boasts features such as discharge headlights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a 4.1-inch multi-information display. The color liquid crystal screen displays information for the audio, climate control, trip computer and other systems.

Some three months ago, also to celebrate its 90th anniversary, Mazda launched two new special editions in Japan, both equipped with i-stop, namely a Mazda Axela and a Mazda Biante.

Specifically, pricing for the Mazda Axela 90th Anniversary Special Edition in Gunmetal Blue Mica exterior body color, begins at 1,890,000 yen ($21,000) and goes all the way up to 2,140,000 yen ($23,800). On the other hand, the Mazda Biante i-stop Smart Edition has a price tag of 2,260,000 yen ($25,200).
