Mayfield Tests Positive for Meth Once Again

One thing's for sure these days in the North American racing environment: NASCAR does not want Jeremy Mayfield to race in their sanctioned series any more. According to the latest media reports confirmed by series' official site, NASCAR has presented the court with a second drug test which Mayfield reportedly failed for methamphetamines on July 6.

It was less than a week before – on July 1, to be more exact – that the US court had lifted the driver's drug abuse suspension and allowed him to return to racing until the matter would be solved for good.

Mayfield had first tested positive for methamphetamines during a random test at the Richmond International Raceway, earlier this year. However, Mayfield accused NASCAR for not following by-the-book procedures when testing him, while also arguing the positive result was influenced by a combination of prescribed medicine and over-the-counter drugs.

As a result of those arguments, the US Court temporarily allowed him to return to racing. However, the lack of sponsors and the teams' holding back at offering Mayfield a racing seat (given the controversy of the situation) have prevented the 39-year old to actually make his return.

Within days of this Court's preliminary injunction, Mr. Mayfield flouted both this Court's authority and NASCAR's Substance Abuse Policy by ingesting the same illegal drug that he has repeatedly denied taking,” NASCAR announced yesterday.

By misleading this Court about his drug use, Mr. Mayfield has compromised NASCAR's ability to protect its drivers, crews and fans,” added the statement.

Mayfield, on the other hand, reportedly took a second sample of his July 6 test to a private laboratory and claims the result was negative, therefore once again putting the blame on NASCAR for their incompetence. In addition, Mayfield insisted his stepmother's testimony – in which she reveals her stepson has been using methamphetamines since 1998 – was also influenced by the NASCAR officials, who are out there to get him.

They picked the wrong woman to use against me because that (expletive) is trash and has got nothing on me but lies,” Mayfield was quoted as saying to the Associated Press.
