Building a brand image has never been easy, but building an image for a car you’re trying to sell for half a million Euros is extremely difficult. Mercedes-Benz, however, managed to do that with the Maybach and the car turned out to be a success.

Keeping up the luxury image is not an easy task either, so Maybach decided to get into the contemporary art game, with some artistic work which shows the Maybach Zeppelin limited special edition and its predecessor from the 1930s, the Maybach Zeppelin DS8. The artist is the renowned American photographer David LaChapelle.

"After visiting the Maybach facility in Sindelfingen, I was inspired to create two iconic photographs which radiated the same seducing and dynamic appeal, as the Maybach itself,” said David LaChapelle.

LaChapelle had complete creative freedom from Maybach, so he went for a luxurious extravagance setting and the face of Daphne Guinness to portrait both applications. The photo shooting, which was inspired by a visit to the Maybach Center of Excellence in Sindelfingen, Germany, was completed in October 2009.

"We are very honoured that such an exceptional artist like David LaChapelle, with his unusual and at times even rousing style, has interpreted the Maybach brand. The results speak for themselves; these are images that create a new view of the Maybach brand. I am convinced that the founder of the brand, Wilhelm Maybach – himself a great innovator in his time – would have also been delighted," said Patrick Marinoff, Global Brand Manager Maybach, who supported the concept of LaChapelle’s interpretation from the very start.
