Named one of the “Most Influential People in the World” by Time Magazine, Matthew McConaughey is by far one of the best known actors in Hollywood. So having the Oscar-winning actor signing on to be Lincoln’s spokesman is definitely a big deal for the American automaker. For the next two years, the True Detective star will appear in a series of broadcast and digital ads for Ford’s luxury division.
Matthew McConaughey recently won an Academy Award for best actor for his lead role in Dallas Buyers Club, which probably qualified him as part of the great actors on the market. Ford’s luxury division is in its middle of reinventing both its image and its vehicles after years struggling with low sales.

Teasers of Lincoln’s first spots with McCounaughey have already reached the internet, and fans can see the actor driving the company’s new MKC compact crossover. The first commercial will air on September 4th.

The campaign’s not screaming for attention, it’s as much about the tone, the mood, the silent moments in between the words and in between the dialogue,” McConaughey said in a preview video released by Lincoln.

Seeing the famous actor closing the deal makes us remind of the controversies created a couple a years ago, when the Lincoln Lawyer movie hit the theater. Back then, the company said they had absolutely nothing to do with the new movie. “Lincoln was not involved in the movie, but we welcome any opportunity for Lincoln products to be shed in a positive light, regardless of the occasion,” the company then reported.
