Now that the Challenger Hellcat has arrived on the scene, dominating every discussion about Chrysler products, you'd think there is absolutely no reason to ever mention the old SRT8 models with their dated designs. But this Vossen Wheels tuning project is so cool, we feel like comparing it to the legendary batmobile.
This project car started out with Mike Kobie, the young SRT8 fan who loves Vossen Wheels and thinks matte black "is awesome as f**k”. Not surprisingly, he wanted everything to be combined in a project that looks like a 1970 Batmobile… from the deep American South.
“I’ve always been that guy that would rather be the one to do stuff,” explains Mike, “and it’s not that I’m cheap, but it’s like paying somebody to build your kid a tree fort—half the fun is in building it yourself!”
Mike's first car was a Charger and it's not surprising that after saving every penny he had, a Challenger is what he got. “I’ve always been into muscle cars,” he says, “I like the original old-school look, but the Mustang and Camaro don’t really have that original muscle feel like the Challenger!”
Adding extra character, the muscle car has been lowered onto a set of VFS2 wheels from Vossen. They have a dark copper finish which, together with the matte paint, almost gives off a steampunk look.
Besides stepping out of the shop with a set of Vossen Wheels, Mike's Dodge Challenger SRT8 also received red halo inserts for the headlights. Because nothing says insomniac quite like blood red eyes.
