Those involved in the Canadian motorcycle industry have one more good reason to smile and hope for a brighter, better 2013, as the figures for bike sales in the first two months of the year show an increase and even better prospects are weather clears out.
While the number of off-road and competition bikes did not see noticeable increase, the street bike segment sale was clearly better than in the same period of 2012. February 2013 alone saw 8.9 percent more bikes sold than one year ago, with 2,030 machines sold, over 1,863 in 2012. Year-to-date numbers show 3,560 bikes sold, compared to the 3,193 last year.
The biggest jumps were recorded in the dual sport and scooters segments in February. Dual sport bikes sales went up 22.44 percent, while scooters follow in closely with a 21.21% sales increase.
Since the early spring weather is still wet and cold, it makes only a faint incentive for bike acquisitions, if any at all. However, once the temperatures go up a bit and the trails start drying out, we 're sure to see a serious betterment in bike sales. And then it's the new Norton Commando bikes which are soon to land on Canadian soil!
