A serious crash took place on the second race organized this weekend during the ADAC GT Masters at the Oschersleben track.
Just a few seconds after the release of the cars (they have a rolling start), two of them wedge together on the start/finish line. The cars veered hard to right, taking four others with them.
The one-hour endurance-style race was interrupted for almost 20 minutes while officials cleared the debris. After the dust had settled, the worse off was Nicki Thiim, a Danish driver who's Audi R8 spun multiple times after crashing into the barrier. His team, Prosperia C. Abt Racing, says the driver is complaining of neck and hip pains. Also claimed by the crash were a few Corvettes and a BMW Z4 GT3 run by local team Oschersleben Schubert.
By the end of the race, only 16 of the 26 sportscar that started saw the checkered flag. The overall winners were Audi R8 drivers René Rast and Kelvin van der Linde.
The next videos show multiple angles of the crash, from both track and onboard cameras. What's touching is how the drivers are helping each other get out and are rushing to Nicki Thiim's car, despite their own injuries.
