Massa Slams Pay Cut Solution

Stefano Domenicali should give Jeff Gordon a call and ask him to put some senses into his drivers' heads when it comes to renegotiating their salaries. In the wake of the global economic crisis, the Ferrari managing director argued that some drivers should consider pay cuts in an effort to reduce costs inside the sport.

However, Brazilian driver Felipe Massa doesn't seem to see eye to eye with Domenicali on this particular matter. The man who almost won the championship last year argued that F1 drivers are the biggest part of the game and that their salaries are already small compared to the F1 teams' budgets.

“In a competitive sport like this, the driver plays a fundamental part, and the cost of the drivers are small compared to the total budget of the teams. The more people work to reduce costs, the better it is going to be for everybody,” argued Massa during an UNICEF press conference in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

Unlike the Formula 1 runner-up, 5-time NASCAR winner Jeff Gordon has insisted a couple of weeks ago that he will accept a pay cut from team owner Rick Hendrick in an attempt to help the organization remain competitive in the series.

“Listen, I never got into this to make millions of dollars. I never dreamed in a million years I was going to make this kind of money. This is ridiculous. The sport's been good. I'm living this way because things have been very good. Now, obviously, we're having to cut back, and I have to cut back, too,” said the Hendrick Motorsports driver.

In Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen are believed to be the drivers with the highest salaries from the F1 pack.
