Massa Set for Strong Race in Valencia

Felipe Massa admitted his optimism ahead of next weekend’s European Grand Prix, despite some rather disappointing performances in the last couple of races. The Brazilian driver did not manage to make a pleasant impression in Canada, but admitted that the level of performance showed by Ferrari in Montreal was nothing short of impressive.

Additionally, Ferrari have bragged for weeks about their new major update prepared for the race in Valencia, so there are really only reasons for optimism within the Scuderia garage ahead of the race 8 days from now.

The car was much more competitive in Canada than in Turkey, which is a good basis on which to go to Valencia for the next race. The street circuit there is not so different in terms of its characteristics to the Montreal track and on top of that, we expect to have some more updates for the F10 to make it even more competitive with those ahead of us in the championship,” said Massa for Ferrari’s website.

Valencia has not produced very exciting races so far, but I enjoy the track, as the only time I have raced there, in 2008 - it was one of the races I missed last year after my accident – I won. It would be nice to think we could be in with a chance of doing the same again this time,” added Massa.

As mentioned in some of our previous reports, Ferrari will debut a brand new exhaust configuration on their F10 in Valencia – borrowed from Red Bull – as well as a new rear suspension.

Massa is yet to climb the podium this season in Europe, while his last Top 3 performance happened in Australia (3rd place). Also, from the leading 3 teams – McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull – the Brazilian is the only driver yet to score a race win in 2010.
