Massa Questioned Piquet, Briatore Prior to the Crash-gate

Felipe Massa told the reporters gathered at the Wrooom media event in the Madonna di Campiglio ski resort that he had doubts about the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix ever since it happened two years ago. He revealed to the media that he actually confronted Nelson Piquet Jr. and Flavio Briatore on the matter, but both laughed back at his accusations.

I spoke to him, yeah. I spoke to him before (it became public). We were going together to drive go-karts in Italy and I asked him about Singapore - I wanted to hear the right story because I was thinking that the combination [of events] was so perfect [for Renault], what happened in that race,” said Massa.

And he was laughing, he didn't want to say the truth. I said 'okay, you're laughing, but I understood. Maybe one day we'll speak again'. And after one month or less, the story came back in the press. I even spoke to Flavio about that in Bahrain last year. I asked Flavio about Singapore and he said 'no, no, it's impossible' and he was even trying to laugh sometimes.”

In addition, Massa reiterated his belief that the FIA should have called off the results in the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, once the ruling body admitted (through their verdict in the crash-gate) the race fixing took place in the aforementioned race. That would have eventually brought Massa the 2008 title, as the scrapping of Hamilton's 6 points in Singapore would have demoted the McLaren driver to runner-up overall.

Soon after the crash-gate was made public, Massa publicly accused Piquet Jr. for robbing him of the 2008 title. Before the Brazilian driver deliberately crashed into the wall during Lap 14, Massa was leading the race. The chaos set up by the safety car led to a disastrous race for the Brazilian driver, who eventually finished the grand prix outside the points.
