Massa Plays Football, Goes Karting in Brazil

Felipe Massa left Spain with the destination Sao Paolo earlier this week, wanting to make the most of his last few spare weeks before the Scuderia Ferrari will start preparations for the 2010 Formula One season. After attending the Ferrari World Finals in Valencia and meeting new teammate Fernando Alonso on Monday, Massa flew back to his natal Brazil to be ready for his wife Raffela's giving birth to their first child.

In the meantime, however, the Brazilian driver did not miss the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a kart in the first practice session of the Granja Viana 500-mile race. It was the second time Massa climbed into a single-seater this week – since his accident in Hungary – following his first experience in a Ferrari F60 (at Valencia) on Monday.

The race will be held on 4 and 5 December. Massa practised with two of his teammates, Lucas di Grassi and Popò Bueno. The name of the third driver is still a mystery,” said the press release from Ferrari, regarding the 500-mile race that Massa is to do 3 weeks from now.

There’s no rush at all. There’s still some time left and we’re studying several options,” added the Brazilian driver when asked about his team's 3rd driver.

However, Massa's flying to Brazil was not all checking on his wife's medical situation and racing a kart, but also about playing some good qualify football with some of his friends. As reported by the online edition of Brazilian newspaper O Globo – together with a picture of Massa in the football field – the Ferrari-an spent the Tuesday afternoon playing football on the Cicero Pompeu de Toledo Morumbi stadium. The match was done for charity.
