Massa Frustrated with Ferrari's Fueling Mistake

Felipe Massa did a terrific job on Sunday with his newly-improved Ferrari F60, only to pay tribute to (yet) another mistake from his team. Only this time it wasn't a strategy issue, as confirmed by Massa himself, but a calculation error. Whether it was from the team's mechanics or the fuel pump, that's yet to be determined.

All we know is that, while in a strong 4th place with 4 laps to go in the Spanish GP, the Brazilian was advised from the pits to let Sebastian Vettel go in order to save fuel for the remainder of the race. Unfortunately for Massa, the 16 seconds of advantage to Fernando Alonso weren't enough either, as he was overtaken by the crowd's favorite in the very last lap. Eventually, the Ferrari-an crossed the finish line in 6th place, scoring his first points this season.

We didn't have a problem with the calculations. We had a problem with the machine. But I don't know if the problem was human or the machine. We need to analyze what was the problem,” said the Ferrari driver after the race.

It was very frustrating. You fight the whole race and then you have to back off. I was already saving fuel in the last run, but it was not enough, so I had to really back off and let Vettel go. I lost a position to Fernando and almost to Nick, so it was quite frustrating,” added the Brazilian.

Despite his F60's obvious boost in performance, Massa believes the title race is now over in both constructors' and drivers' championships, as it's very clear Brawn GP are way ahead of the competition. Both Massa and Raikkonen are 38 points behind drivers' leader Jenson Button, while Ferrari stand no less than 62 points behind Brawn GP.

In the championship? No, I don't think so. We need to be realistic. After five races they won four. Even if we improve massively and we are three or four tenths if front of them they will still score points. So forget it,” added Massa.
