Massa Blames "Stupid" Ferrari for Lack of Points

Following a second consecutive point-less performance in 2009, Ferrari's Felipe Massa decided to break the silence. The Brazilian urged his team to turn the Ferrari F60 into a race winner again, as the 2009-spec car is far from competitive as compared to the top of the field. He referred to his team as being “stupid”, as he was probably thinking of the poor judgement calls in terms of strategy that were taken in Malaysia.

“We need to start from zero. We need to get together to understand point by point what is going wrong. And, try to improve everything. That is the idea. I think we need to get together and we need to improve. We were not great before and stupid now,” said Massa, talking about the two races so far in the 2009 season.

Massa missed the chance to go into Q2 on Saturday – and, therefore, started from a poor 16th place on the grid – as his team advised him to stay in the pits for the late minutes of the session (considering Massa's previous time was sufficient to get past the Q3). Sebastien Bourdais had other plans, though, as he managed a perfect late run to get in front of the Brazilian driver.

Strategy again looked at its weakest point on Sunday, when Kimi Raikkonen lost any chance of making a podium (or point) appearance at Sepang due to a wrong tire choice from his team. Ferrari have fitted his car with wet tires on a completely dry track, therefore compromising his shots at a good result.

If “no score” in the first two rounds is a first for Raikkonen since with Ferrari, Massa had a similar start of the season last year. However, the Brazilian reckons last year's reasons for not making the scoreboard were driver-related and not because of poor performance with his car.

“Last year we had a better car so it was better to improve the situation quickly and get in the fight again. This year our car is not so good, so it will be a bit more difficult to improve - but things change from one race to the next so maybe we still have a chance,” added Massa.
