Call it eccentric, but the way Maserati does marketing remains well rooted in the company’s home country. This time around, the luxury carmaker has partnered up with another high-end Italian manufacturer that instead of cars makes high-performance bicycles. And it’s all for a good cause, too.
Maserati is the primary sponsor of Rouleur Classic, a new road cycling exhibition that premiered Thursday in London and goes through Saturday. To celebrate this collaboration, it also developed a unique bike in partnership with retired Italian professional road cyclist Mario Cipollini. The model is set to go under the hammer soon.

The unique two-wheeler will be signed by the sportsman and will be the centerpiece of the Maserati Lounge, where visitors will be invited to join a silent auction to win the bike and raise money for Action Medical Research. The medical research charity has been funding innovations since it began its mission back in 1952.

Its efforts to solve some of the world’s problems have paid off too, as they marked breakthroughs such as the first polio vaccines in the UK, ultrasound in pregnancy, and the rubella vaccine.

Those who won’t be able to visit the event in London can also bid online. The auction will then continue on stage at Champions of CycleSport Dinner on Thursday, November 26, when the overall highest bidder will be announced.

The Cipollini bike sets itself apart through its frame, which was painted in Maserati blue and white and features Rouleur Classic and Maserati branding, including the Italian carmaker’s trident in red on either side of the seat tube. Aside from its design, it should be said the bicycle is made of exclusive materials, comprising an Ultegra mechanical groupset, Selle San Marco Aspide racing saddle, and a Fast Forward F2A alloy clinchers wheelset.

Maserati estimates its retail price at £4,500, which for a high-end performance road bike entirely made of carbon fiber is a pretty regular price.
