Marchionne managed to pull a 180 on us in Frankfurt with the Maserati SUV that was dubbed the Kubang. Instead of getting some sort of retouched Jeep Grand Cherokee, the end result looked totally unique, and we really couldn’t be more happy with the announcement that the production version would be all-Maserati.
While the rest of the vehicle was a sort of wait-and-see affair, it didn’t stop us from criticizing the strange name they’d chosen - Kubang, which is a name of a wind in Indonesia. Now, Italian publication alVolante.it suggests that Maserati has registered the Cinqueporte with the European patent and trademark office.

Given the fact that there are no other vehicles with four-doors and a hatch round the back, it’s likely the designation is for the new SUV.
