Maserati Levante Sedan Based on Chrysler 300

Fiat wants to revive the Maserati brand with a massive investment into three major cars, a replacement for the Quattroporte, the small sedan rumored to be called the Levante (test mule shown in photo) and the Kubang SUV.

The Quattroporte is almost ready to be revealed, as production is rumored to be on the verge of starting. The next model is the baby sedan to rival the Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5-Series, which is due in late 2013.

A recent report from Autocar magazine suggests the Maserati Levante will be based on a Chrysler platform that also underpins the new 300 and the next Dodge Charger. The Italian model will have the same 3052mm wheelbase, but won’t necessarily have the same nuts and bolts. The Italian in-house styling will also make the 300 bones unnoticeable.

This ties in with yesterday’s report that the Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan will share its engine, a tri-turbo V6, with a Maserati model.
