While the looks of the Maserati SUV haven’t managed to completely win us over and the name is unpronounceable, we now have more confidence than ever in the Italian luxury automaker’s capacity to pull this off.
That mainly because they’ve promised this will not be a badge job on the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but a completely new car with Maserati engines, Maserati suspension and Maserati brakes.
The manufacturer has released a video preview for the car, but we weren’t that impressed as the first few minutes are filled with that the usual “we have heritage behind us”. Unfortunately, the on-the-road stuff featuring the Kubang is all computer generated.
The Modena automaker has said the Kubang will be offered with a new generation of "high-tech Maserati propriety engines" designed in house by Paolo Martinelli, Head of the Maserati Powertrain Department.
