Maserati GranTurismo to Debut at Guangzhou Auto Show

The Guangzhou Auto Show that opens its doors to the public in a few days will bring a lot of new things to Chinese visitors. Besides the "regular" production models that are likely to be launched in China in 2011, Guangzhou will also host a few more "exotic" appearances, including the Maserati GranTurismo which debuted in Europe in 2007 at the Geneva Auto Show.

Sure, there's nothing new about the GranTurismo, but the car remains a major attraction and Maserati tries to take full advantage of this, especially in Asia. As a result, the Italian brand has started an Asian tour to promote the car and the first stop is the Guangzhou auto show.

The version to be displayed in China might be the one equipped with an automatic unit, although some voices claim that Guangzhou will witness the Asian debut of the GranTurismo S with automatic gearbox.

This particular model was introduced in 2009 at the same Swiss event and came with a a 4.7-liter V8 engine that produces a maximum output of 440 horsepower (323 kW) at 7000 rpm and a maximum torque of 490 Nm at 4,750 rpm. Just like its name suggests, the upgraded model features a ZF 6-speed automatic gearbox that improves both the engine performances and fuel economy,

There were several exterior styling modifications, including the restyled under-door mini-skirts that "enhances the dynamism of its profile", as the automaker bragged in the statement. The car is now wearing 20-inch wheel rims based on the "Trident" design as standard.
