Maserati GranCabrio to Make UK Public Debut

The new four-seater convertible from Maserati will make its UK debut on October 4, at the Goodwood Breakfast Club, just two weeks after it has been officially unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Goodwood and Maserati go together a while back, ever since Prince Bira entered a Maserati 4CL in the very first race meeting at Goodwood on 18 September 1948.

The new GranCabrio model will join other Maseratis at this Sunday’s ‘Maserati Magnifica’ themed Breakfast Club, as a tribute to the Trident marque. Other marques that will be featured at the event include Lamborghini, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Fiat and Ducati.

“The event is free to attend, although direct vehicle entry to the motor circuit is restricted to those arriving in theme-appropriate vehicles, with all others being parked up a very short walk from the track, and all visitors are welcome,”
a club statement says.

Maserati GranCabrio features a fabric roof that brings the overall weight of the car close to 2 tonnes. It is powered by a 4.7-liter V8 engine that develops a maximum power of 440 hp. As for the performance figures of the new model, the car can go as high as 180 mph (290 km/h) and jump from 0 to sixty in 5.5 seconds.

The UK's first drive of the Maserati GranCabrio in 2010 has been won at a charity event, during the revival of the Queen Charlotte's Ball at the Hammersmith and Queen Charlotte's Hospital site of Imperial College London, when it raised 60,000 British pounds in support of the Wolfston and Weston Research Centre for Family Health.
