Maserati will introduce the Sport version of the GranCabrio at the upcoming Geneva Auto Show, with the topless vehicle promising to offer enhanced performance in all areas.

At the heart of the performance topless vehicle we find a beefed-up incarnation of the carmaker’s 4.7 liter V8 unit, which delivers 450 hp and a peak torque of 510 Nm. The engine not only offers a higher output, but, thanks to Maserati’s Friction Reduction Program, it also comes with a 6 percent fuel efficiency increase. The unit pushes the vehicle on to a top speed of 285 km/h (177 mph).

The powerplant works with a ZF six-speed automatic transmission that uses a MC Auto Shift software based on the one features on the Quattroporte Sport GT S.

The list of other tech modifications includes a revised Skyhook active suspension, as well as the introduction of grooved and drilled dual-cast brake discs.

The vehicle can be recognized by its black front grille that uses a Trident with red accents, black-style headlights with white sidemarks, new front corner splitters and sideskirts. In addition to that, it introduces a new color: Rosso Trionfale.

The GranCabrio Sport also debuts a new body colour for Maserati: Rosso Trionfale inspired by the red Italian national colours used on 1950s racing Maseratis – in 1957, Juan Manuel Fangio won his fifth F1 World Title at the wheel of a red Maserati 250F,” stated the press release.

autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
