Maserati GranCabrio Released

Maserati has just revealed the GranCabrio, the convertible flavor of the popular GranTurismo which is going to be showcased at the Frankfurt Auto Show next month. The new model will go on sale next March and, as you can see, looks similar to the GranTurismo which is based on, obviously except for the roof.

Maserati GranCabrio features a fabric roof that brings the overall weight of the car close to 2 tonnes. It is powered by a 4.7-liter V8 engine that develops a maximum power of 440 hp. The manufacturer hasn't released performance figures for the new model but autocar.co.uk speculates that it could go as high as 180 mph (290 km/h) and jump from 0 to sixty in 5.5 seconds.

The car will still feature a four-seat architecture and will boast the longest wheelbase in its class, according to a release rolled out by the parent company.

"The GranCabrio represents the very essence of Maserati in terms of open-top cars. It’s a Maserati in the purest sense of the word: from the unmistakable style by Pininfarina to the spacious interior, from the craftsmanship of each detail to the driving pleasure and performance," Maserati said.

The GranCabrio is projected to hit the market next winter, which is quite awkward given the fact that we're talking about a convertible model designed for open-air driving. According to the aforementioned source, it will be a bit more expensive than the GranTurismo. Nevertheless, the car will be on display at the Frankfurt Auto Show, so the full list of specifications, as well as pricing and other details, should surface soon.
