Maserati Ghibli No. 100,000 Rolls Off Assembly Lines in Italy

At the Shanghai Motor Show in 2013, Italian carmaker Maserati introduced the Ghibli, a sport sedan intended for the most pretentious of customers. Surpassing even the carmaker's expectations, the Ghibli soon proved to be a hit.

In the six years that have passed since its introduction, 100,000 units of the Ghibli have been produced. The threshold has been announced this week, when the Italian carmaker said the milestone was reached at the Avv. Giovanni Agnelli Plant in its home country. The record-setting car is a Ghibli in S Q4 configuration and GranSport trim, and intended for the local market.

“Ghibli number 100,000 is a major milestone for Maserati and for the people who work at the Grugliasco plant. Since its launch at the Shanghai Motor Show in 2013, Ghibli has garnered positive reviews in the world's top motoring journals, and has also found favor with many customers around the globe,” the carmaker said in a statement.

“The Maserati sports sedan's main markets are the USA, China, Italy, Japan and Germany.”

At the time of its introduction, the Ghibli was the first Maserati car to be fitted with a diesel engine. Now, as was the case back then, the range comprises the 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel that develops 275 hp, but also gasoline powertrains of the same displacement that pump out 350 and 430 hp, respectively.

As for the S Q4 configuration that just rolled off assembly lines, this version of the car packs the most powerful of gasoline engines and an all-wheel-drive system. Using this combination, the Ghibli S Q4 is capable of accelerating from a standstill to 100 kph in just 4.7 seconds, and has a top speed rateed at 286 kph (177 mph).

Presently, the full Maserati range includes, aside for the Ghibli, four other models, ranging in size and style from convertibles to SUVs. They are the GranTurismo, GranCabrio, Quattroporte, and Levante.
